Probably not, but thousands of women and men put themselves at risk of disease and death each day because they are unable to protect themselves. ‘Shortage of 15 billion condoms to fight aids’ AMSTERDAM – World-wide there is a deficiency of fifteen billion condoms a year to actually give fighting aids a chance. To stop this disease from growing any faster than it already is we annually need 24 billion condoms while we have nearly 9 billion at hand.
Lets show we really do give a f*ck BARCELONA – Since restaurant and cocktail bar ‘foc’ opened it’s doors in Barcelona it has been selling t-shirts with slogans containing it’s easy playable name. “The initial idea was to earn an extra buck for those who need it most by making cool shirts that actually sell.” says Sander van Dissel, one of the owners. “But after selling so many we came up with an idea to effectively add value to the campaign against Africa’s never-ending aids and poverty drama’.
Project Safe Sex
At the moment Foc supports the Weebale Foundation. Weebale means THANK YOU in the Oeganda language. One of the goals of the Weebale Foundation is preventing Sexual Transmittable Diseases like HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
While working in the small village Banda Kyandaaza they experienced that a lot of inhabitants are infected with HIV.
An estimated 1.2 million people are living with HIV in Uganda. Recognising the vital role that testing plays in preventing the spread of HIV, it is important that the clinic, belonging to the village, will be equipped with proper testing equipment. Weebale is now working on a program to educate the villagers about how to prevent STDs, and specially HIV. One important element in preventing is the use of condoms.
Together with three Uganda musicians a special song is produced called ‘Put It On’. Weebale intends to distribute the song by Uganda Radio stations which has to stimulate the use of condoms.
